Antarctic Peninsula Expedition
An expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula hosted by Antarctica Travels offers myriad glimpses of the southernmost continent of the planet and reveal some of its closely-guarded mysteries.
The expedition embarks at Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego in Argentina, the southernmost city in the world. There will be two days of sailing across the Drake Passage, crossing the Antarctic Convergence, and arriving in the circum-Antarctic up-welling zone. Get a chance to see varied birds such as the Wandering Albatrosses, Grey Headed Albatrosses, Black- browed Albatrosses, Light- mantled Sooty Albatrosses, Cape Pigeons, Southern Fulmars, Wilson’s Storm Petrels, Blue Petrels and Antarctic Petrels. Near the South Shetland Islands, there will be glimpses of the first icebergs.
The magnificent landscape of the Antarctic Continent will be revealed, with its huge glaciers, and a good chance of seeing Humpback Whales and Minke Whales. The expedition makes it possible to visit the British research station and post office at Port Lockroy on Goudier Island. Further south, drop by the Ukrainian Vernadsky Station. This gives insight into the life of modern Antarcticans working on the White Continent.
